About me – writer and artist

Writer

I have been a journalist, foster carer and communications manager. In 2019, I gained a Masters in Creative Writing from Goldsmiths College.

I am writing two novels, a contemporary one about bisexuality and long-term relationships, which is being developed on the Curtis Brown Creative three-month novel writing course. The other is set in the Victorian era and is critiqued regularly by the Angel Fiction Group.

I was longlisted for the 2019 Queen Mary Wasafiri New Writing Prize: www.wasafiri.org.

I was also short-listed for the short script award at the Women over Fifty Film Festival, 2021. https://wofff.co.uk/

Three of my non-fiction books have been published and I contributed to a book on fostering and education, see my Amazon profile page. Amazon.co.uk: Nicola Hill: Books, Biography, Blogs, Audiobooks, Kindle

I helped to launch the Guardian’s website, www.theguardian.com/society  I worked for two years as the charities reporter, writing stories, commissioning articles and developing the website.

An LSE graduate in social psychology, I spent three years at Cancer Research UK, and two at the RNIB, producing fundraising publications. I was also the news editor of Voluntary Sector magazine for over three years.

Artist

I loved art at school but wasn’t encouraged to continue beyond the third year of secondary school. In the last three years, I have returned to my passion and taken classes with the artists Lisa Ivory, Calvin Richards, Natasha Brown, Tony Hull, Anna Salamon, Noga Shatz and Ro Sylvester.

I enjoy life drawing, abstract, portraits, landscapes and still life. Some of my work has been exhibited in London and Provence.
