I went to the Royal Society of Portrait Painters exhibition at the Mall Galleries in London. This was my favourite painting of Lukas Sheehan, by the artist Stefano Curti, who was the winner of the Lazlo Foundation Award.
I like the muted colours and limited palette. I wonder if he has used the Zorn Palette – vermillion, black, white and yellow ochre. To see one of my paintings using the Zorn Palette, click here.
The light on his shoes and hair is particularly effective. By incorporating an intriguing background, the artist has captured a moment in time, as if the subject has just stopped in the middle of working and looks a bit fed up with having to stop to pose.

Quote from Stefano Curti
Art is about the eye and the mind working in coordination. As an artist whose focus is on portraiture, I intend to be concise and sincere with my subjects.
I am a draftsman before all else, using line to capture what I see. The rest follows after. My goal is to deliver pieces of art which vibrate, shimmer, and captivate while also staying true to the eye. This is why I prefer to work from life.
